Native to the United States of America, the red-eared slider turtle is a freshwater turtle with a distinctive red stripe behind each ear. Red eared slider turtles are aggressive and will out-compete native species for food and space.

The red-eared slider turtle is currently not located in the Wide Bay Burnett and is targeted for prevention under the Wide Bay Burnett Regional Biosecurity Strategy 2017-2022.
